Last Saturday, the Metropolitan of Transylvania inaugurated a new kindergarten in Deva, honouring the late bishop Gurie Georgiu. The project initiated by Bishop Gurie was entrusted three years ago to the now Bishop of Deva and Hunedoara, Nestor.
The kindergarten was blessed during a service on August 27 attended by Bishop Andrei of Covasna and Harghita and Bishop Nestor of Deva and Hunedoara.
The staff of the diocesan centre, representatives of local and central authorities, as well as parents and children, attended the inauguration.
Ending the blessing service, His Eminence Metropolitan Laurentiu highlighted the triple joy of the day: the first joy that came from heaven, from the Saviour Jesus Christ, the One who said, “Let the little children come to me!” (Luke 18:16), the second joy resulting from the work that was accomplished, and the third joy coming from the fraternal communion and together-prayer of those present.
His Grace Bishop Nestor spoke about the projects that his predecessor Bishop Gurie Georgiu initiated for the joy and benefit of the people, including the newly inaugurated kindergarten, a project carried out almost entirely through the efforts of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara.
At the end, those involved in the construction, beautification, equipment and endowment of the “Bishop Gurie Georgiu” Kindergarten received church distinctions.
The kindergarten has a capacity of 80 places and comes to meet the local need for additional places for preschool education.
The Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara is the “youngest” in Romania. Last year the diocese marked its 12th anniversary.
