The Romanian Orthodox parish in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, France, has recently purchased a plot of land, with support from Romania’s Department for Romanians Abroad, to build its own place of worship.
Her Excellency Ioana Bivolaru, Romania’s Ambassador to France, visited the community in October, when the parish marked the occasion with prayers, and expressed her support on social media.
Ambassador’s visit
“I was delighted to join the community in Reuil-en-Brie and La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, at the invitation of Fr Ciprian Rebrișorean of the Romanian Orthodox Parish of St John the Baptist in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, on a special day marking a new beginning: the completion of the procedures for purchasing, with the support of the Department for Romanians Abroad, the land on which a church and cultural centre will be built for the local community,” the Ambassador wrote on Facebook.
“Congratulations to Fr Ciprian Rebrișorean and the community on this new project — a place for gathering and preserving Romanian identity and traditions — which will provide a permanent setting for the development of religious, educational, cultural and social activities.”
The land purchased for the construction of the parish’s St John the Baptist Orthodox Worship and Cultural Centre is located in the commune of Chamigny, in the Seine-et-Marne department of the Île-de-France region, north-central France.
The parish currently holds its liturgical services at 7 Rue de Rohan, 77260 Reuil-en-Brie, France.
