Deva’s first Bishop Gurie prayerfully remembered one year after his blessed repose

A year after the blessed repose of the first diocesan bishop of Deva, Gurie Georgiu, hierarchs, clergy, monastics and believers gathered in St Nicholas diocesan cathedral to remember him in prayer.

Bishop Gurie Georgiu presided over the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara from 2009 until his death on October 21, 2021.

His Eminence Metropolitan Laurentiu of Transylvania led the memorial ceremony, which was attended by local and central authorities, monastics, and Bishop Gurie’s family.

Metropolitan Laurentiu invoked the spiritual personality of the first shepherd of Deva and Hunedoara and imparted Patriarch Daniel’s benediction.

After the ceremony, Bishop Nestor of Deva and Hunedoara presented a volume entitled “Bishop Gurie Georgiu, the first archpastor of Deva and Hunedoara. Testimonies, thoughts, recollections.”

A brief video depicting the life and activities of Bishop Gurie Georgiu was screened.

The participants witnessed the unveiling of a statue built in memory of Bishop Gurie of Deva and Hunedoara, located in the courtyard of the Diocesan Centre.
