Saint Nectarios celebrated by Romanian Orthodox faithful in Vršac, Serbia

The feast of Saint Nectarios the Wonderworker of Aegina was celebrated on Saturday and Sunday at the Ascension of the Lord Cathedral in Vršac by the faithful of the Diocese of Dacia Felix.

On Saturday evening, Bishop Ieronim of Dacia Felix led the Great Vespers with Artoklasia in honour of the saint, together with an assembly of priests and deacons.

The event was attended by representatives of the Romanian state, including Anca Corfu, Consul General of Romania in Vršac, and Cristina-Lavinia Arnăutu, Director with State Secretary responsibilities at the Department for Romanians Abroad.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Ieronim said that Saint Nectarios is “a living model of steadfast faith and patience in suffering,” serving as a shining example for Christians today.

God’s grace works in the lives of the saints

On Sunday, the feast day itself, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Ieronim and Assistant Bishop Nichifor of Botoșani from the Archdiocese of Iași.

Liturgical responses were provided by the Byzantine Choir of the “Saint Dositheus” Theological Seminary in Suceava, conducted by Archdeacon Professor Paul Iușcă.

In his homily, Assist. Bishop Nichifor spoke about the active presence of God’s grace in the lives of the saints, taking Saint Nectarios as a key example of holiness and perseverance.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Ieronim of Dacia Felix presented church distinctions to Silvia Davidoiu, Romania’s Ambassador to Serbia, Anca Corfu, Consul General of Romania in Vršac, and Cristina-Lavinia Arnăutu, from the Department for Romanians Abroad.
