His Grace Bishop Petroniu of Sălaj officially visited Iraq on Monday. Reasons for interreligious and intercultural dialogue occasioned the trip.
The Romanian delegation included Fr. Valentin Ilie from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest, a member of the Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Studies and Dialogue of the University of Bucharest, Apti Metin from the Muftiate of the Muslim Cult in Romania, and Dirar Kutaini from the European Romanian-Pan-Arabic Cultural Centre.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Romanian hierarch met with Archbishop Mor Severius Hawa of Baghdad and Basra from the Syrian Church and with Ayatollah Mohamed Al Jabry.

On the same day, the Romanian delegation, accompanied by His Excellency Radu Octavian Dobre, Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Iraq, visited Ashur University in Baghdad, where they met with the president of the university, Kadhim Al-Majidi.

On Wednesday, His Grace Bishop Petroniu, together with the members of the delegation benefiting from a military escort, moved towards the ziggurat in Ur of the Chaldeans, where Patriarch Abraham was born.

The visit ended with a reception offered by Lieutenant General Saad Harbiya.
