“Basilica” publishing house of the Romanian Patriarchate has published the book entitled History of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Patriarch Justinian of the University of Bucharest (1881 – 2013).
According to the editorial note, the History of the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest presented in this book is structured into four big chapters, each of them worked out by a theology professor. Rev. Lecturer Dr. Daniel Benga drafted the history of the Faculty since its setting up in 1881 till the World War I. The second chapter comprises the history of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology during the two World Wars, having been drafted by Lecturer Dr. Ionuț Alexandru Tudorie.
The chapter on the history of the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest during the communist period (1948 – 1989), when it was changed into a University Theological Institute was drafted by Rev. Reader Dr Mihai Săsăujan. The History of the Faculty of Theology of “Patriarch Justinian” of the University of Bucharest from 1990 till today, as well as the most important changes and events which marked the evolution of this Faculty were mentioned and described by Rev. Prof. Dr. Adrian Gabor. Tables of the theology graduates from 1949 till 2012 and of the graduates of the programmes of master degrees were made in collaboration with four master degree students and three doctorate students.
The book also comprises the scientific research presenting the Research centres initiated after 2006 which have achieved, sometimes in partnership with other high education institutions, research grants, national and international symposiums, seminars and round tables. The research made at the level of the doctorate studies is a little more important, as the Faculty has got the right to grant the doctorate degree in theology ever since 1915.
The present book is addressed first to all to the clergy and theological students, as well as to laic readers fond of theology, to all those wishing a fast information on the historical evolution of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of “Patriarch Justinian” within the University of Bucharest.
