Future priests in the UK to undergo theological exam before ordination

The Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is set to hold its first priesthood competency exam in early April, assessing future clergy before their ordination.

Theological and Canonical Assessment

The exam is open to theology graduates specializing in Pastoral Theology, who are spiritual sons of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and meet the necessary canonical, statutory, and ecclesiastical requirements for ordination.

Candidates will be tested across all theological disciplines to evaluate their knowledge and readiness to serve Romanian UK parishes.

Biannual Examination Process

The exam will be conducted twice a year, in spring and autumn, and will take place in London in the presence of Archbishop-elect Atanasie of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, along with an evaluation committee.

The examination will consist of two parts:

  • A written test lasting one hour
  • An oral examination before the evaluation committee, based on pre-established theological topics.

Application and Deadline

Candidates must submit their application via email to the secretariat at [email protected] by March 28, 2025, including their personal file for registration.
