The future is pro-life because pro-life is the only way to have a future: The Bucharest March for Life 2022

“The future belongs to those who let the light of love shine upon them and whose heart beats for other hearts confronted with difficult situations. The future is pro-life because pro-life is the only way to have a future,” said Alexandra Nadane on Saturday at the Bucharest March for Life 2022.

The event was organized by Studenți pentru viață, Romania’s pro-life students association, and România pentru viață (Romania for Life), and had the route Unirii Park – Tineretului Park. At the arrival point, speeches and artistic moments were presented.

A charitable concert is traditionally organized at the Bucharest March for Life and is entitled “Live for Life”. This year, the event raised funds for Ukrainian refugee mothers and their children.

The March for Life was live-streamed on Facebook by Trinitas TV, the Television of the Romanian Patriarchate, and hosted by journalist Cristina Teleanu of the same tv channel.

“This is one of those moments when the work of these fighters for life becomes more visible in society and is shared face to face. It is a moment to enjoy together music and the success of this project,” said Cristina Teleanu at the opening of the event.

The speakers were Valentina Doliș, President of Studenți pentru viață, Adelina Fronea from Life Call, Ioana Camata, who offered her testimony of pregnancy crisis, Alexandra Nadane, Presedent of România pentru viață.

“You may have wondered what the theme of this year’s march means: Equality, Equity and Support – Throughout Life, from the First Moment. Let me explain it as concretely as possible: Equality, Equity and Support mean creating centres for women in pregnancy crisis – on an institutional level and helping women in pregnancy crisis – on a personal level,” affirmed Valentina Doliș, President of Studenți pentru viață.

“Imagine how it could have been if our mothers had been aborted and not born: we would not be here today,” added the student.

“To make euality a reality, all of us are needed. We need to support women in pregnancy crisis. We are a really equitable societate only if we care and if we stand by  pregnant women and their preborn children, supporting them from the first second of theri existence and throughout their lives – as long as they need our support,” added Valentina Doliș.

Alexandra Nadane, President of România pentru viață, mentioned the devastating effects of the pandemic – both on those who caught the virus and on women in pregnancy crisis.

“There were difficult times and also times to discover ourselves, times to do good. An acquaintance of mine, pressed by her baby’s father, had an abortion and dies. Another acquaintance gave birth after she had had an abortion. We suffer or rejoice all the while looking towards the future,” she added.

“With each extinguishing life, a world dies. With each saved life, a world is born or reborn. That is why, there is something more important than the number of participants in a march or an activity and more important than the total number of cities and towns where pro-life activities are organized in the Month for Life. And that most important thing is is the light from each participant’s soul,” continued Alexandra Nadane.

“The future belongs to those who let the light of love shine upon them and whose heart beats for other hearts confronted with difficult situations. The future is pro-life because pro-life is the only way to have a future.”

She thanked all those “whose hearts beat for each new life” and announced the date of the 2023 March for Life Romania and the Republic of Moldova: the event will be held across the two countries on the Saturday when the feast of the Annunciation is celebrated.

Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, one of the biggest pro-life organizations in the United States, sent a video message for the Bucharest March for Life 2022.

“You are fighting for the most important human rights issue not only in Romania. Here I am, doing it in the United States, but globally. There is no greater death toll globally than the death toll due to abortion,” Lila Rose said.

“We together can help save lives and there is nothing more important than fighting for the sacred dignity of the human person and fighting for the child, who’s the most vulnerable,” the American added. “Our movement on behalf of children and women is a global movement and I hope I get to visit [Romania] at some point in the future.”

Two of the speakers gave their testimonies about pregnancy crisis. Psychologist Adelina Fronea, the founder of Life Call, a Romanian pro-life organization, disclosed the fact that abortion taught her hatred.

“I thought no one could help me,” she said. “Abortion effectively taught me how not to love.”

“Pregnancy crisis is invisible,” she warned. “A woman in pregnancy crisis may walk past you in the street and you shall never know what is in her heart. That is why it is so important to share these things, so they know they are not alone. The fight for life is not just mine or Alexandra’s, it is not just the fight of some specialized organizations. Each of you can support a woman in pregnancy crisis.”

Ioana Kamata shared her feelings and difficulties arising from lack of support from her family and from society. She confessed that in her case pregnancy crisis was followed by another crisis after birth. “The most important thing I learned was that any child coming into this world is a chance for the family to be confronted with the truth,” she said.

More than 250 cities and towns from Romania and the neighbouring Republic of Moldova organized marches for life this year. The local organizers were independent from each other, but the theme was common: Equality, Equity and Support – Throughout Life, from the First Moment.
