Study | Bucharest, the best city in the world for remote work

According to a British research, Internet speed, IT equipment costs, online shopping with home delivery and affordable costs of living make of Romania’s Capital the best city in the world for remote work.

Broadband Deals, a British data company, has made a global city ranking which Bucharest tops, followed by Houston, Las Vegas and Atlanta, all in the US. The Hungarian capital, Budapest, is on the fifth place. In Top 20, only Hong Kong, Houston and Dublin surpass Bucharest in terms of Internet speed.

The corporations based in Bucharest sent their staff to work from home during the state of emergency instated as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of them have already decided to continue this arrangement after the state of emergency ends, according to the Romanian public television TVR.

While the number of remote work posts has increased fourfold over the latest months, the office building owners expect a renegotiation of lease contracts at the end of the pandemic.
