The local proclamation of the canonisation of Saint Dumitru Stăniloae took place on Saturday at Cernica Monastery, near Bucharest.
The day began with the Akathist Hymn to Saint Dumitru Stăniloae, followed by the Third and Sixth Hours. At 9:00 a.m., the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Church of Saint Nicholas on the island of Cernica Monastery.
The Divine Liturgy was concelebrated by several hierarchs of the Romanian Orthodox Church, including His Eminence Metropolitan Teofan of Moldavia and Bukovina; His Eminence Metropolitan Laurențiu of Transylvania; His Eminence Archbishop Casian of Lower Danube; and the Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishops Varlaam of Ploiești and Paisie of Sinaia, together with His Grace Timotei of Prahova, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest.
The sermon was delivered by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, who had blessed the reliquary prepared for the saint’s relics on Thursday.
On Friday, the relics were formally received at Cernica Monastery, where Assistant Bishop Timotei of Prahova highlighted the deep spiritual bond between Saint Dumitru Stăniloae and the Cernica monastic community.
Saint Dumitru Stăniloae was canonised by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2024, with his feast day established on October 4.
To mark the saint’s first official feast and the local proclamation of his canonisation, the Basilica News Agency organised an open-air photography exhibition titled “CERnica – Between Earth and Heaven.”
