A delegation of Romanian Orthodox hierarchs, priests, and pilgrims traveling through Egypt was received at the patriarchal residence in Cairo by Patriarch Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Pilgrimage in the Footsteps of the Holy Family

As pilgrims seeking sites connected to the journey of the Holy Family in Egypt, the Romanian delegation learned from Patriarch Tawadros II about the rich history of Egypt and the Coptic Orthodox Church.

The Coptic Patriarch spoke about the seven civilizations that have shaped Egypt—Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic, Arab, African, Mediterranean, Roman, and Greek. His Holiness also reflected on the Holy Family’s journey through Egypt, the era of martyrdom endured by the early Church, and the monastic movement that originated from the Coptic Church through Saint Anthony the Great, the father of monasticism.

Additionally, Patriarch Tawadros II highlighted the historical relationship between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The visit to Patriarch Tawadros II’s residence took place on Friday, February 28. Father Mina Talaat, a priest of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Bucharest, was also present at the meeting.
