President Iohannis decorates Romanian parish in Grebenac, Serbia

The President of Romania on Tuesday signed a decree decorating the Romanian Orthodox Parish of Grebenac in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia.

The parish community will receive the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Grand Officer, Category G – “Religious denominations” for “its outstanding contribution to the preservation of the Orthodox faith, language, spirituality, Romanian culture, the ethnic identity of Romanians in the present-day Republic of Serbia, as well as its notable merits in deepening spiritual-cultural ties with Romania.”

The decoration is linked with the 300th anniversary of the parish church dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord.

The Church of the Ascension in Grebenac was built in 1722 and is included on Serbia’s list of cultural monuments of exceptional importance.

President Klaus Iohannis signed the decree on the same day that the Romanians of the Diocese of Dacia Felix welcomed their new Bishop, His Grace Ieronim.
