Pious Ioan Iacob from Neamţ Celebrated for the First Time in the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

Wednesday, 10 August 2016 (28 July according to the old calendar), Saint Ioan Iacob from Neamţ was celebrated for the first time in the Patriarchate of Jerusalem since the official proclamation of his canonisation (31 January 2016).

On the occasion of the celebration of the pious Romanian coming from Botoşani, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Monastery of Saint George of Hozeva (where his holy relics are) by His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem. From the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, His Beatitude concelebrated with His Eminence Isychios, Metropolitan of Capitolias, and His Eminence Metropolitan Joachim, as well as the Very Rev. Archimandrite Teofil Anăstăsoaie, Representative of the Romanian Patriarchate at the Holy Places and Superior of the Romanian Settlements at Jerusalem, Jericho, and Jordan.

The celebrating group also included Rev. Protosyncellus Ioan Meiu, servant priest at the church of the Representation of the Romanian Patriarchate in Jerusalem.

The Patriarch of Jerusalem delivered a speech in which he emphasised the personality of Pious Ioan Iacob from Neamţ – Rev. Protosyncellus Ioan Meiu related for TRINITAS Radio station.

Pious Ioan Iacob from Neamţ is one of the Romanian contemporary saints. He lived in the Holy Land for 24 years, both in the Jordan Valley and in Hozeva desert. Our Church canonised him in 1992, to be celebrated on 5 August. Saint Ioan Iacob is celebrated in the Patriarchate of Jerusalem on 28 July.
