His Beatitude Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria will visit Jerusalem and Jordan from 25 to 30 September, during which he will meet Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.
Patriarch Daniil’s delegation will include Metropolitan Ioan of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop and Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, Secretary-General of the Holy Synod.
The Patriarchate of Jerusalem said it awaits the visit with “profound canonical joy”, highlighting the historic ties between the two Orthodox Churches.
“This fraternal encounter stands as a profound testament to the historic, centuries-old spiritual ties and unbreakable bond of Eucharistic communion uniting the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Church of Jerusalem,” the Patriarchate of Jerusalem said in a statement.
Joint Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre
One of the central events of the visit will take place on 27 September, when Patriarch Theophilos III and Patriarch Daniil will concelebrate the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
“Together, before the Life-Giving Holy Shrines, our united prayers will ascend for the preservation of Christian presence and for the heavenly peace of Christ to overshadow the Middle East and the entire world,” representatives of the Church of Jerusalem said.
The Patriarchate of Jerusalem emphasised the visit’s particular significance, saying it “serves as a vital witness to the oneness of our Holy Orthodox Faith and a tangible manifestation of empathy and support for the Christian community of the Holy Land.”
The visit will continue in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where meetings and visits to pilgrimage sites are planned.
According to a statement issued by the Bulgarian Patriarchate, the Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is also scheduled to meet King Abdullah II of Jordan.
