Romania’s National Cathedral project competes for best façade in Europe

Baumit, a leading construction materials company, has entered the National Cathedral of Romania project into the Life Challenge 2026 competition, in the non-residential buildings category, which rewards the most striking Baumit façades across Europe.

“The National Cathedral is a landmark of Romanian religious architecture, combining Byzantine tradition with local elements. Its façades, structured with arches and columns, emphasize symmetry and verticality, while the central dome dominates the skyline, creating a striking visual landmark,” the project description submitted to the competition states.

“Local materials – stone and marble – provide durability and sobriety, while sculpted ornaments and colourful mosaics highlight the finesse of the details. The balanced proportions and harmonious volumes make the main façade a remarkable example of monumental expression, where tradition meets contemporary ambition.”

Each vote is presented as significant, aiming to demonstrate not only the beauty of a façade but also that people value cathedrals alongside other types of buildings.

Supporters can vote for the project online by awarding it a five-star rating.
