Interest in Christianity is increasing among young people in the United Kingdom, according to data from a report published by the Bible Society. Participation in religious life among those aged 18 to 24 has increased fourfold over the past six years.
The report highlights that this growing interest is particularly visible among young people from predominantly secular backgrounds, for whom exploring the Christian faith represents a new experience.
The document also shows that those who regularly take part in religious life are less prone to depression and anxiety, while more than 60% of young people who attend church frequently are also active in community life.
Bible sales double
This trend is also reflected in Bible purchases. According to an analysis by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK Group), cited by The Guardian, Bible sales in the United Kingdom reached their highest level since records began in 2025.
Compared with 2019, sales increased by 134%. The study is based on data provided by Nielsen BookScan, an international book sales monitoring service.
Sam Richardson, chief executive of SPCK Group, told The Guardian that the data point to a shift in young people’s outlook. “In the past, the rebellious gesture was to be an atheist and to follow figures such as Richard Dawkins and the so-called New Atheism. Today, things appear to have reversed,” he said.
“For the next generation, it is more interesting to be Christian. Young people are open to exploring faith rather than rejecting it automatically,” the SPCK Group chief executive added.
Role of social media
According to the same source, social media has contributed to this shift by giving young people direct access to personal testimonies about spiritual journeys in a more informal and accessible way than in the past.
The Guardian also notes that similar trends are being observed in the United States, where Bible sales reached a 21-year high in 2025, suggesting a broader rise in faith interest among Generation Z across the Western world.
