France Orthodox Bishops pray for Orthodox unity, encourage affirmation of true faith

The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of France (AEOF) resumed its regular meetings on December 14, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Metropolitan Demetrios of France (Ecumenical Patriarchate). The bishops prayed for Orthodox unity and encouraged the affirmation of the true faith.

After the introductory speech of Metropolitan Demetrios, the new chairman of the AEOF, the bishops discussed the need for peace and unity of the Orthodox believers in France.

Hierarchs, clerics, and laypeople from various jurisdictions were called to co-operate for the confession of Orthodoxy in France. The bishops present stressed the need for the constant affirmation of the true faith.

Topics of common interest were also discussed, especially matters of pastoral nature and related to the representation and confession of the true faith. The bishops stressed the need to cultivate attention in spiritual, civic and health issues in the current period, marked by turmoil, difficulties and distances imposed by the pandemic, from the need to protect human lives.

On behalf of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the meeting was attended by Metropolitan Iosif of Western and Southern Europe and the Assistant Bishop Marc of Neamț.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew ordained Metropolitan Demetrios Ploumis of France on July 25 as the successor to Metropolitan Emmanuel, who was promoted to Senior Metropolitan of Chalcedon.
