Ecumenical Patriarch will visit Mount Athos in October

On Saturday, August 3, a Delegation of the Holy Community of Mount Athos, consisting of Monk Nikodemos Lavriotis, Monk Nikodemos Agiopavlitis and Hieromonk Sisois Xenofontinos, had a cooperation with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, so as to schedule the visit by Bartholomew to Mount Athos, 19-22 October, Romfea reports.

On Saturday, October 19, the Ecumenical Patriarch will arrive at Xenophontos Monastery, his first stop on Mount Athos. At the Arsanas (a small port that only the monks have the access) of the Monastery there shall take place the official welcome of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew by the Abbot, the Holy Primates and the Representatives of the 20 Athonite Holy Monasteries.

The following day, Sunday, October 20, the Ecumenical Patriarch will preside the Divine Liturgy at the new Cathedral of the Monastery, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his construction.

During his visit, the Ecumenical Patriarch will travel to Karyes, where he will venerate the Icon of Mount Athos, the Virgin Mary “Axion Esti”, in the Protaton Church, and will also visit the Monasteries of Vatopedi, Pantocrator and the Skete of Saint Andrew (Serai), Saint Panteleimon and Prophet Ilias.

During the meeting of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with the Delegation of the Holy Community, Deacon Gregory, the Second Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, was also present.
