Decisions of 18th meeting of Orthodox Bishops’ Conference of Benelux (CEOB)

The Orthodox Bishops’ Conference of Benelux (CEOB) met at the seat of the Metropolis of Belgium in Brussels on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, chaired by Metropolitan Athinagoras of Belgium. Bishop Markos (Patriarchate of Romania) and Bishop Dositheus (Patriarchate of Georgia) also participated in the meeting.

The bishops were briefed on the outcome of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit to the Benelux countries on the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Metropolis of Belgium and the Exarchate of the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

They were also informed that Archbishop Simon (Patriarchate of Moscow) held a private meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch in a very fraternal climate at the request of the former. All the bishops found that this visit had a positive impact and gave the opportunity to strengthen further the inter-Orthodox relations in the three countries.

The hierarchs decided to make a pilgrimage to Georgia after Easter 2020. The next meeting of the Orthodox Bishops’ Conference of Benelux will take place on June 17, 2020.

The Orthodox Diocesan Assembly was created by decision taken by the 4th Panorthodox Preconciliar Conference, meeting in Chambésy (Geneva) in June 2009.
