Bishop of Maramures remembers predecessor as ‘model of wisdom and gentleness’ on 3 year death anniversary

During a memorial service marking the third anniversary of the repose of Archbishop Justinian Chira, the Bishop of Maramures and Satmar praised his predecessor as a model of wisdom and gentleness.

‘May his words full of wisdom and gentleness, his model of a good shepherd inspire us in our ministry and help us understand that life is experienced with great patience and courage,’ Bishop Justin of Maramures said October 30.

‘He was a bishop-confessor of the true faith and the one who gathered the people in great numbers around the holy altars,’ Bishop Justin added.

The memorial service was officiated at the tomb of Archbishop Justinian Chira at Rohia Monastery, following the Divine Liturgy.

Archbishop Justinian reposed in the Lord on 30 October 2016, at the age of 95, after a long cultural and pastoral activity.

In his message of condolence, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel called him “a struggling bishop, a dynamic pastor and a devout liturgical servant”.
