Archdeacon Mihail Bucă proposes bringing the Hawaiian Myrrh-Streaming Icon to Romania

Archdeacon Mihail Bucă, the Protopsaltis of the Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral, and several members of the Tronos Byzantine Choir celebrated the feast of Saint Andrew and Romania’s National Day in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

During their visit, they witnessed the arrival of the Hawaiian Myrrh-Streaming Iveron Icon of the Mother of God at the Romanian parish dedicated to Saints John Cassian and Andrew Șaguna.

“I was left speechless by the amount of myrrh it exudes, even though it is a printed icon! My family and I hope to bring it to Romania next year!” Archdeacon Mihail Bucă shared on Facebook.

The icon, a replica of the Iveron Mother of God icon from Mount Athos, was gifted to Subdeacon Nectarios by Father Anatole Lyovin in 1997 for his name day. The original replica was brought to Montreal, Canada, in 1982.

In October 2007, Subdeacon Nectarios and his wife were amazed to experience a strong fragrance of roses and saw myrrh streaming from the icon.

Since then, the Hawaiian Myrrh-Streaming Icon has been on multiple pilgrimages to Orthodox communities across North America, frequently visiting places such as the Romanian Orthodox Monastery of Mono in Canada.
