Archbishop Ioachim: Every human life bears dignity and the right to exist

“Every cell, every embryo carries within itself human dignity and the fundamental right to life,” declared Archbishop Ioachim of Roman and Bacău at the beginning of the Month for Life.

“God is God because He brings into existence something that has never existed before. Out of His infinite love, He has also shared with humanity the power to procreate. For God, every human being matters. This means that for us, too, every fellow human being must matter,” the archbishop stated.

“The more God matters in each of our lives, the more we will recognize the value and uniqueness of every human person,” His Eminence emphasized.

“Christianity is the testimony of the Son of God, who became man, thus elevating human existence to an astonishing value. Every person is a fellow being of God, a brother of His. For this reason, every human being matters.”

Freedom Cannot Contradict the Gift of Life

Archbishop Ioachim also reminded that God endowed humans with free will from the moment of creation. However, he stressed that “the exercise of personal freedom cannot contradict God’s most precious gift—the gift of life.”

“The Holy Scriptures do not explicitly mention abortion, but they speak sublimely about the importance and value of life. In this sense, we can speak of Christian morality, which also extends to the field of medicine,” His Eminence added.

“How important it is to understand the reality of bringing a new spiritual existence into the universe—the fulfillment of the gift of life and the affirmation of the uniqueness of the person! How valuable is man’s resemblance with God—the ability to give life!”

The Innocence of Childhood and Divine Providence

The archbishop also dedicated a few poetic lines to childhood and divine providence, noting:

“The child is the only one who can truly embody humanity’s total dependence on the Heavenly Father.”

March for Life 2025

The March for Life 2025 theme is “Every Person Matters.” The March culminates a series of pro-life cultural, educational, and philanthropic events held throughout the month of March, which is designated Month for Life.

The first March for Life was held in Washington, DC, in the United States, in 1974, and the movement has since expanded worldwide.

March for Life is a unique concept introduced in 2014 by local organizers in Romania and the Republic of Moldova to support the March for Life through a more extensive series of events, called March for Life, thus fostering a culture of life.

The 2025 Month for Life program in the Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău, which includes Bacău County and part of Neamț County, contains over 400 pro-life activities, from tree planting and charity walks to conferences, creative workshops and film screenings.
