Last week, media correspondents of the Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău gathered at the Deanery of Bacau to discuss methods of improving online communication. Archbishop Ioachim addressed the participants, stressing the responsibility of those who write news articles and take photographs.
The purpose of the meeting was to create the optimal framework for a unified account of the events taking place in the five deaneries of the Archdiocese.
Archbishop Ioachim of Roman and Bacău said, “The internet is a market where everything is thrown into today. It is difficult today to sort when there is an inflation of information, which is difficult to decant or synthesize. But discernment is cultivated primarily by reading books by the predecessors who are models for us: a teacher, a priest, a hierarch.”
“Through your written word, through the information you present publicly to be read and cited, you are responsible for the way the Church and the truth of faith are perceived today,” the Archbishop cautioned during the meeting on Sept. 19.
During the meeting, Father Alexandru Zamfir, the Archdiocese’s spokesperson, detailed different perspectives on how to reflect the activity of the Church in the virtual space.
Practical advice for writing a news article and technical details about storytelling and responsibility in communication was offered by Mioara Ignat, an inspector at the Archdiocese’s cultural department.
The first meeting of the Archdiocese’s communicators was held approximately five years ago.
