Winners of the National Contest Entitled “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith” Were Awarded Prizes

Wednesday, 21 May 2014, the winners of the National Contest of the “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith” were awarded prizes and the exhibition of their works was opened. The young painters were awarded prizes by the Patriarch of Romania. The contest was held in two sections: section A, wood painting, and section B, glass painting.

On this occasion, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel appreciated the results of this year’s edition, the commemorative year of the Brancovean Martyr Saints: “Treating these specific iconographic themes in various versions in the solemn commemorative context of the year 2014 is a spiritual elevation and special aesthetic achievement. The new edition of the contest emphasises the fact that due to the special interest of the participants, the premises making the basis of the annual organisation of this national contest of the icons painters are fully justified and welcomed. The national contest entitled “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith” has already become a consecrated frame for cultivating and affirming both the neo-Byzantine art and the talents dedicated to this field of our church painting, a field of great interest for the lovers of Christian Orthodox art”.

The winners of the contest for Section A (wooden painting) were the following:

Bogdan Gheorghe Verdeș, county of Galați – Prize I.

Sorin Albu, county of Cluj – Prize II

Alin Bogdan Pater, county of Arad – Prize III

Ionel Haraga, county of Iași – Mentioned

The winners of Section II (glass painting) were the following:

Niculina Sanda Albu, county of Cluj – Prize I

Simona Teodora Roșca, county of Cluj – Prize II

Alin Bogdan Pater, county of Arad – Prize III

Veronica Lucia Țața, county of Cluj – Mentioned

To end with, the exhibition was opened and Mr Dan Mihai Ivanovici, Patriarchal Counsellor – Department for Culture and Religious Patrimony presented its catalogue.

The meeting of the estimation commission within the National Contest of the “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith”, 3rd edition 2014 was held Tuesday, 6 May 2014, at the “Saint Constantine Brancoveanu” patrimony Centre of Bucharest. The works of 29 participants at Section A (wooden painting) and of 17 participants Section B (glass painting) were estimated.
