The Week (Octave) of Prayer for Christian Unity opened on Monday at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Bucharest.
Representing the Patriarch of Romania, Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Varlaam of Ploiești attended the event, accompanied by Archimandrite Augustin Coman, Patriarchal Adviser in the Department for Christian Relations, Interreligious Affairs and Romanian Communities Abroad of the Patriarchal Administration.
According to Lumina Newspaper, representatives of other Churches and Christian denominations in Romania’s capital were also present, along with Ciprian Olinici, Romania’s Secretary of State for Religious Denominations.
In Bucharest, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity takes place from January 18 to January 25. This year’s gatherings are centred on the biblical verse: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called,” from Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians (4:4).
The host of the event was Archbishop and Metropolitan Aurel Percă of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest, who delivered the opening address.
