The Vaslui County Council approved a decision on August 30 to rename the County Emergency Hospital after Saint Kyriaki the Great Martyr, the Huși Diocese announced in a press release, also expressing gratitude to all decision-makers, cultural figures, and believers who understood and supported this initiative.
As stated in the press release, this decision represents a spiritual gain for all those who value Vaslui County’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Saint Kyriaki is the protectress of the Diocese of Huși and has held a significant place in the consciousness of the local people since 1787 when Bishop Iacov Stamati brought the relics of the great martyr (her left hand) from Mount Athos to the Diocesan Cathedral in Huși.
Saint Kyriaki, a Christian martyr celebrated on July 7, was a young woman who lived in the 3rd century. She was tortured and killed for her faith during the persecutions of Christians under Roman Emperor Diocletian. She remains a model of intelligence and perseverance in faith, protecting those who suffer, the youth, and those wrongfully accused.
“The adoption of Saint Kyriaki as the patroness of the Vaslui County Emergency Hospital is yet another way to bring to public consciousness the spiritual and cultural heritage of Vaslui County, which we must continually bring to light and affirm,” added the representatives of the Huși Diocese.
“We are convinced that the protection of Saint Kyriaki will be felt in the lives of the medical staff and patients, for, in the end, our entire existence is under the care of God, the ‘Physician of our souls and bodies.'”
