His Grace Bishop Ignatie officiated a memorial service on Saturday at the grave of Archimandrite Mina Dobzeu, located near the Diocesan Cathedral in Huși.
“He was an unwavering confessor of faith in Christ, without any interruption, in the face of the atheist materialist steamroller of communism,” the bishop said.
“This is one of Fr Mina Dobzeu’s great virtues: his unwavering resistance, without any interruption, until the end of his life, against the evil of communism. This placed him among the great confessors of the communist era.”
“He Never Yielded Because He Loved Christ”
The hierarch reflected on the inconsistency often found among contemporary Christians, who sometimes hesitate to confess their faith openly.
“Unfortunately, we are shaken by the slightest gust of wind that contradicts what we believe, because we care more about our image than about faith in Christ. We are driven by pride and yield to compromises that we think may rescue us from difficult situations or protect our lives.”
“Fr Mina never yielded for a single second. This steadfastness was due to his love for Christ. When we truly love someone, we cannot betray that person for even a moment. When we are consumed by love for our own ego, we continually betray both those around Christ Himself and us, because our hearts are filled with self-centred love.”
Bishop Ignatie also noted that the words engraved on the archimandrite’s cross offer guidance for Christian life: “Forget evil, endure much and forgive everything.”
Memorial Cell Planned
The Bishop of Huși announced that the diocese will establish a memorial cell at the monastic dwelling where Archimandrite Mina Dobzeu lived.
The memorial space will include digital information panels providing access to his biography, a photographic exhibition and personal belongings of the renowned confessor.
A large group of clergy, including diocesan advisers and deans from throughout the Diocese of Huși, joined the bishop in prayer.
The service was attended by faithful from Huși and surrounding areas, as well as members of the Diocesan Assembly who were present for the constitutive session of the body for the 2026–2030 mandate.
