Stavropoleos Monastery located in Bucharest’s old city centre has partnered with Scanbox Integrated visual solutions to build a complete virtual tour of the Monastery, giving unprecedented access to monastery church, courtyard and facilities.
Now available on the Stavropoleos Monastery’s website, the Virtual Tour takes users on a digital tour of the church, library, refectory and museum, showcasing exhibits with 360-degree images.
Mânăstirea Stavropoleos
Stavropoleos Monastery was founded in 1724 by the Greek Archimandrite Ioannikios Stratonikeas.
Within the precinct of his inn, Ioannikios built the church and a monastery that was sustained with the incomes from the inn.
In 1726, abbot Ioannikios was elected Metropolitan of Stavropolis and exarch of Caria. Since then, the Monastery received the name Stavropoleos.
Stylistically, Stavropoleos ensemble belongs to Brancoveanu epoch. Its stone decoration, furniture, interior and exterior murals make it the epitome of that period in the history of Romanian art. Although small in size, the church has a monumental appearance, as an architectural space specific to Byzantine tradition. By its sculpted decorative and ornamental motifs, the church expresses both a baroque sensibility and an oriental taste.
Mănăstirea a fost construită la începutul secolului al XX-lea în stil neo-romanesc, după planurile arhitectului Ion Mincu.
