Romanian President Nicușor Dan sent a message on Sunday marking the local proclamation of St Magdalena’s canonisation ceremony at Malajnica Monastery in Serbia. “She remains a symbol of devotion and steadfastness,” the head of state emphasised.
Eugen Tomac, honorary presidential adviser for relations with Romanians abroad, read the Romanian President’s message. Nicușor Dan highlighted the significance of the local proclamation for the Romanian community in the Timok Valley and for the Romanian Orthodox Church.
“The local proclamation of the canonisation of St Magdalena of Malajnica is a celebration of faith, but also of the memory and continuity of a community which, over the generations, has preserved its identity, traditions and connection with its spiritual values with dignity.”
Cohesion, faith and solidarity
The Romanian President said the local proclamation holds particular significance for Romanians in the Timok Valley.
“It speaks eloquently about cohesion, faith and solidarity, about the indissoluble bond between generations and about the importance of the values that ensure continuity.”
Nicușor Dan reiterated the Presidential Administration’s commitment “to strengthening ties with Romanians beyond the country’s borders”.
“Preserving and promoting national identity, language, faith, Romanian culture and traditions constitutes a fundamental responsibility and a priority of the state, which has a duty to stand by Romanians everywhere, wherever they may be,” the Romanian head of state emphasised.
Memory as a source of hope
The Romanian President congratulated those involved in preserving the spiritual and cultural life of Romanian communities in Serbia.
“May the memory of St Magdalena of Malajnica become a source of hope, confidence and spiritual strength for all those who honour her memory.”
“May God bless Romania, Serbia and all those who, through faith, respect and mutual understanding, are building a future of closer relations and good neighbourliness,” Nicușor Dan said in conclusion.
