Southern Bessarabia Diocese sends 44 tonnes of aid to war-hit Ukrainians, 2025 report says

The Diocese of Southern Bessarabia supported Romanians in Ukraine affected by the war by delivering dozens of tonnes of humanitarian aid as part of a wide-ranging social and charitable campaign, according to its 2025 activity report.

With the direct involvement of priests from the Ismail Deanery, humanitarian assistance was provided to the two Romanian parishes within the deanery: the “Saints Peter and Paul” Parish in Hagi-Curda and the “Saint Andrew the Apostle” Parish in Reni.

With the support of the “Volunteers Without Borders” Association and in partnership with the “Melchisedec Ştefănescu” Religious Association in the village of Priozeornoe, two lorries carrying humanitarian supplies were sent to the Kherson region, near the front line.

More than 44 tonnes of food products were distributed through these shipments to communities affected by the war.

Separately, through the support of Lukas Hospital in Laslea, Sibiu County, a second medical caravan was donated to the Odesa Regional Administration — a truck equipped with mobile clinics, medical equipment and supplies — intended for health interventions in conflict-affected areas.

Support for refugees

The diocese’s assistance for refugees from Ukraine was also delivered through the “Saint Basil the Great” Educational Centre, affiliated with the “Saint Hierarch Dionysius” Cathedral in Cahul, Republic of Moldova.

In 2025, 26 Ukrainian refugee children participated in educational and integration programmes, including creative workshops, camps, and digital skills classes, while eight refugee women participated in education and training programmes.
