Russian Patriarch Kirill to meet Friday with Ecumenical Patriarch

His Beatitude Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will meet Friday, August 31, 2018, with His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Constantinople.

Patriarch Kirill will visit the headquarters of the Ecumenical Patriarchate ‘following his express desire’.

‘We announce with pleasure that, on August 31, 2018, following his express desire, His Beatitude Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will visit the headquarters of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with his delegation for conversations with His All-Holiness and pertinent offices of the Mother Church on matters of bilateral interest,’ a Press Release from the Chief Secretariat of the Holy Synod states.

It seems clear that the subject of Ukraine will be the most important item on the agenda of this meeting, reports official website of te Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The previous meeting of the two Patriarchs took place during the Synaxis of the Primates of autocephalous Orthodox Churches which took place from January 22 to 27, 2016, in Chambesy, Switzerland.

The two Patriarchs had met earlier, on March 6-9, 2014, in the course of the Synaxis of the Primates of Autocephalous Orthodox Churches in Istanbul, Turkey; on October 7, 2013, in Podgorica, Montenegro; during the visit of His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew to the Moscow Patriarchate on May 22-31, 2010; and in the course of the official visit of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill to the Orthodox Church of Constantinople on July 4-6, 2009.
