Romanians hope to purchase historic church in Sweden: “A Christmas miracle,” Bishop says

The Romanian Orthodox community in Scandinavia is celebrating a historic moment as they intend to acquire their own church in Borås, Sweden. His Grace Bishop Macarie of Northern Europe described this goal as “the most beautiful and unique Christmas gift.”

“With great joy, I announce that the contract has been signed to purchase a place of worship for the Romanian Orthodox community in Borås – Olsfors Kyrka. This is a historic moment not only for the Borås community but for all of Scandinavia, as very few parishes have their own churches; most rely on rented spaces,” announced Bishop Macarie.

A Testament of Faith and Unity

Bishop Macarie expressed gratitude to God, calling the acquisition a miracle. The All-Merciful God has worked a miracle, allowing the signing of the purchase contract. Now it is up to us to fulfil the part entrusted to us,he added.

The church, Olsfors Kyrka, will serve as a permanent spiritual home for the Romanian Orthodox faithful in Borås, marking a significant milestone for the community, particularly in a region where owning a dedicated church is rare.
