Romanian Patriarch sends food and books to monks on Mount Athos

A delegation from the Romanian Patriarchate is visiting Mount Athos this week to deliver food supplies and books to Romanian monastic communities on behalf of Patriarch Daniel.

The patriarch dispatched 1,450 volumes, consisting of 290 book titles designated for the library of each monastic settlement, in addition to eight tonnes of non-perishable food.

The aid will be distributed in the coming days to the Romanian Prodromos Skete of the Honourable Forerunner, Lakkoskete and Romanian cells on the territory of Vatopedi Monastery, including the cells of Saint Hypatius, Saint George-Colciu and Saint John the Baptist-Colciu.

The delegation arrived on Wednesday at Lakkoskete, on the territory of Saint Paul Monastery, where it was received by hieromonk Mihail Bozga and several elders from Romanian cells in the Lakkou valley.

The books sent as a gift by the Romanian patriarch were presented in the monastery’s synodikon and included editions of Holy Scripture, liturgical books, patristic volumes, and works on spirituality, homiletics, history and church music.

The delegation includes officials from the Patriarchate’s social-philanthropic, publishing, economic and cultural departments, as well as representatives of TRINITAS TV and the Church Books Printing House.
