Romanian Orthodox youth in Germany to hold annual gathering focusing on loneliness, egoism and love

The Association of Romanian Orthodox Youth in Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg (ATORG) will hold its annual meeting in Vienna from October 11 to 13, 2024. ATORG invites participants to explore how loneliness and egoism can be diminished, both from the perspective of biblical values and teachings and from the practical teachings of Orthodoxy.

According to the ATORG website, the meeting will include discussions on topics such as “The Suffering of Loneliness: The Role of Today’s Youth in Overcoming It—A Biblical Perspective,” presented by Rev. Professor Stelian Tofană, and “On Love in Christ and Egoism,” presented by Monk Pimen Vlad.

Father Stelian Tofană serves at the Orthodox Cathedral in Cluj-Napoca. He teaches the New Testament at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at Babeș-Bolyai University and is the deputy director of the Center for Biblical Studies at the same university.

He is also a member of professional organizations and societies, such as Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS) and the Union of Romanian Biblical Scholars (UBR). He wrote several books, including the three-volume “Introduction to the Study of the New Testament” and “Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest, According to the Epistle to the Hebrews.”

Monk Pimen Vlad from the Romanian hermitage of Lakoskete on Mount Athos is known for his vlogs explaining the Orthodox faith, which are available on social media. He is also the author of several Christian Orthodox instructional books: “Teachings from Mount Athos,” “The Joy of Giving,” and “Forgiveness.”

The event will be hosted by the Church of the “Descent of the Holy Spirit and Saint Stephen the Great” in Vienna under the coordination of parish priest Emanuel Nuțu. The program can be consulted on the ATORG website, and those interested can fill out the registration form until September 30, 2024.
