The Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint John the Baptist” in the province of Malaga, Spain, has received funding to renovate, restructure, and equip a space dedicated exclusively to the religious, cultural, and social activities of the Romanian community.
The sum of approximately 240,000 euros has been provided by the Department for Romanians Abroad (DRP).
The Romanian community in the province of Malaga, which continues to grow and currently numbers around 25,000 people, faces the challenge of lacking its own space for celebrating the Divine Liturgy and conducting religious and cultural activities, according to a statement published on the website of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Spain and Portugal.
Until now, the parish has operated in a rented space with limited capacity and no opportunities for expansion.
The DRP-funded project aims to transform a building already purchased by the parish in the city of Benalmadena into a true spiritual and cultural centre for Romanians in Malaga.
The project is scheduled to run until November 15, 2024.
Those who wish to support the completion of the church’s painting, the iconostasis, and other church furniture not covered by the received funding can visit the Donations Section on the official website of the parish in Malaga.
