The Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Silouan the Athonite” in Concepción, Chile, was recently established under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Metropolis of the Americas. After preparing a place of worship, the local community is now awaiting the consecration of the church by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae.
The Metropolis of the Americas has announced that the consecration will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, during His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae’s first official visit to Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador.
On this occasion, the church will also receive its secondary patron saint: Saint Philothea of Argeș, a beloved Romanian martyr. The parishioners expressed their wish to invite Archbishop Calinic of Argeș and Muscel to participate in the event.
Details regarding the consecration ceremony were discussed at the Parish Council meeting held on June 14, which was attended by Fr. Daniel Ene, diocesan vicar of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of the United States of America.
Visits to Latin American Parishes
Fr. Daniel Ene was in Chile as part of a broader visitation program across parishes in Latin America.
As part of his visit, the parish in Concepción also hosted a symposium titled “Commemorating 1700 Years Since the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325–2025),” which brought together Orthodox faithful, guests from other Christian denominations, local authorities, and university professors.
After the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, June 15, Fr. Ene gifted the parish an icon of Saint Philothea of Argeș, brought from Romania.
