Romanian Metropolitan celebrates name day, joins homeless people for lunch

Metropolitan Ioan of Banat honoured his name day on the feast of St. John the Forerunner by eating lunch with homeless individuals in a Timisoara shelter.

The metropolitan usually celebrates his name day by doing charity. Last year, he turned his attention to the people deprived of their liberty at Timișoara’s Penitentiary.

Also on the feast of St. John, the Metropolitan of Banat gave food parcels to homeless persons living in 11 containers linked to utilities at the Support Centre for Emergency and Crisis Situations in Timișoara’s Pădurea Verde.

People appreciated the Metropolitan’s presence among them and His Eminence’s unwavering care for their issues.

Metropolitan Ioan often delivers substantial quantities of food to the social centre on Telegrafului Street in Timisoara. These individuals also received medical advice from a nun who is a physician.

Marius Cosmin Murariu, deputy general director of the Directorate of Social Assistance of the Municipality of Timișoara, joined His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan, the Metropolis of Banat reports.

His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan is well-known for his countless social-philanthropic actions, which include the quarterly distribution of food and clothes to social centres and public hospitals in Timiș County.

These visits fostered a productive partnership between the Diocesan Centre and the Emergency Social Centre for Homeless Persons in Timișoara.

In addition, the social institution partners with the Directorate of Public Health (DSP Timiș) and the Local Police to ensure the centre’s security and safety.

The main headquarters of the Emergency Social Centre for homeless people and the social canteen are located on Telegrafului street no. 8. The institution offers social assistance for free or for a fee to persons in unique economic and social circumstances. Additionally, it prepares and serves two meals daily (lunch and dinner).

In addition to providing clients with counsel and information, the Social Centre directs them to other organisations capable of solving their particular issues.
