Romanian Diocese takes steps to set up Orthodox Vicariate in Portugal

Setting up a new Orthodox Vicariate in Portugal was the main topic on the agenda of the administrative gathering of priests in the Romanian Orthodox Deanery of Portugal, which took place at the Dormition of the Theotokos Monastery in Aldeia de Santa Margarida on Monday, August 14.

The meeting was chaired by His Grace Bishop Timotei of Spain and Portugal. Attendees included the assistant bishop Teofil of Iberia and the administrative vicar for Portugal Fr. Andrei Jilcu, Dean Rev. Florentin Dobrescu and all the Romanian priests in Portugal.

The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Spain and Portugal has nine parishes and five non-parochial churches in Portugal. Almost 500,000 Romanians live in Portugal, according to statistics.
