The first phase of a project to consolidate and repair the Palace of the University of Bucharest concluded with discovering the remnants of the institution’s ancestor, the Princely Academy of St. Sava Monastery in Bucharest, in the inner courtyard of the edifice.
This was the first higher education school in Wallachia, founded in 1694 by ruler prince Saint Constantine Brâncoveanu.
According to SC Erbașu, the walls have been preserved with geotextile and re-covered with soil for conservation purposes throughout the building’s consolidation and restoration work.
The works are carried out by Erbașu Constructions in association with two other companies and financed by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration through the National Investment Company.
The repair of the largest educational structure in Romania will involve structural reinforcement, roof restoration, façade restoration, restoration of historical decorations, removal of moisture and infiltration, and installation of an architectural lighting system.
The monastic cells and the church of St. Sava Monastery were located across the street from the former Princely Academy.
