Patriarch of Romania welcomes SVOTS President, Archpriest Chad Hatfield, at the Patriarchal Residence

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel welcomed Monday, 12 June 2017, the President of St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary (SVOTS) in New York, USA, the Very Rev. Dr. Chad Hatfield, at his Patriarchal Residence.

During the meeting, the two discussed subjects related to the ties between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) as to promoting a joint, missionary and dynamical Orthodox witness on the American continent. They also referred to cooperation prospects between St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York and the Patriarch Justinian Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest, based on the 2014 agreement signed between the two higher education institutions.

Given the fact that Archpriest Chad Hatfield particularly appreciates the theological, pastoral and missionary work of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, he asked for His Beatitude’s blessing to make this activity known on the American continent.

The Romanian Patriarch thanked Fr. Chad Hatfield for the constant support given to young Romanian Orthodox theologians studying at St Vladimir’s. As a sign of gratitude and appreciation, His Beatitude presented Fr Chad Hatfield with the St John Chrysostom Order of the Romanian Patriarchate.

We note that St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary was established in 1938. The deans of this Orthodox Theological Seminary include great theologians such as Fr. George Florovsky, Fr. Alexander Schmemann, Fr. John Meyendorff, Fr. Thomas Hopko and others.

The Very Reverend Chad Hatfield teaches Missiology and Evangelism at St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. He was appointed the first President of the Seminary on 30 November 2016.
