His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel welcomed the new U.S. Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg to the Patriarchal Residence on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, for a courtesy call.
The ambassador was accompanied by Aaron Singleterry, the embassy’s political counsellor, and Alex Climescu, a political specialist.
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel welcomed the ambassador to the Romanian Patriarchate and highlighted the relations of mutual trust and friendship between Romania and the United States of America.
In turn, Ambassador Nirenberg thanked him for the warm reception and noted the Romanian Orthodox Church’s contribution to Romanian society. His Excellency also praised the level of religious freedom in the country, saying it contributes to social harmony and to the development of a society in which moral and spiritual values are respected.
During the meeting, Patriarch Daniel emphasised the Romanian Orthodox Church’s significant social work, combining spirituality with philanthropy to support vulnerable people, families in difficulty, young people, and communities facing various challenges.
His Beatitude also highlighted the Church’s involvement in supporting Romanian communities in the diaspora, offering spiritual, cultural and educational assistance while maintaining their connection to Romanian identity and traditions.
At the end of the meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel congratulated the new U.S. ambassador on assuming his diplomatic mission in Romania and wished him success in his activities.
