Muslim converts to Orthodoxy at Apostol Parish in Bucharest

A Muslim converted to Orthodoxy this December and received the name of Saint Peter during a Baptism ceremony at Apostol Parish in Bucharest.

‘It was a unique event, I think, in the nearly 300-year history of our parish. Last Sunday was a really special day for our community,’ Marinel Laurentiu Marcu, a parish counsellor, commented the event.

The Sacrament of Baptism was officiated on December 15, 2019, by Fr. Florin Busuioc, dean for Bucharest’s Sector 3, together with the parish priest Fr. Ioan Sache, and Fr. Marin Sirbu, the neophyte’s spiritual director.

Family members, relatives and close friends attended the Baptism ceremony. The conversion was a personal desire of Petre, who participated in numerous events at the parish, feeling very close to Romanian spirituality and traditions.

“It is understandable to have such feelings because he has been living in Romania for almost 30 years. In addition, he is civilly married to an Orthodox Christian, and together they have a little girl who was baptized in the Orthodox Church. Also, they very much wish in the near future to also be married religiously in our church, which makes us happy and at the same time honours us,” said father Marin Sîrbu.
