On Tuesday, His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Basarabia attended the presidential inauguration of Her Excellency Maia Sandu as President of the Republic of Moldova.
The event took place at the Palace of the Republic in Chișinău during a joint session of the Parliament and the Constitutional Court, in the presence of over 500 guests.
Metropolitan Petru was accompanied by Archdeacon Maxim Sturza, Counselor for Church, External Relations, and State Institutions.
In her inaugural speech, Maia Sandu emphasized that she accepts her second presidential term “with humility and determination,” with the primary objective of realizing a common dream for the country’s citizens: the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union.
At the end of the ceremony, Metropolitan Petru conveyed to President Maia Sandu the blessings of the Romanian Orthodox Church and warm wishes for fulfilling her mandate, assuring her of the prayers and support of the Metropolis of Basarabia in her mission to bring more unity, prosperity, and security to the lives of Moldova’s citizens.
The Metropolis of Bessarabia’s participation in the event reflects its concern for supporting democratic values, good dialogue between Church and State, and the pro-European path of the Republic of Moldova, according to a report by diocese representatives.
