Metropolitan Ioan of Banat last Friday surprised passers-by on a street in Timisoara when he got out of his car and began directing a bus driver who was stuck in traffic.
His Eminence was travelling with a team of journalists to film a report when he noticed the traffic jam.
After giving instructions to the bus driver, the Metropolitan of Banat continued to clear the road on both directions.
“This is not the first time when at an intersection or somewhere where a traffic accident occurs and when I see that there is no police officer, I get out of the car and start to direct the traffic,” the Metropolitan told the national television TVR.
Metropolitan Ioan considers his gesture a “citizen’s duty”. Moreover, he is known for his frequent and uncommon acts of mercy. He recently donated approximately 1,000 winter clothing items for patients with psychiatric disorders at a hospital in Jebel.
