Orthodox theologian John Behr to receive honorary doctorate from Iași University

The Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Iași, part of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, has announced it will award Fr. Prof. Dr. John Behr, a world-renowned patristics scholar, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.

The formal ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 14, starting at 10:00 AM, in the “Mihai Eminescu” Aula Magna of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iași. The event is open to the public.

Renowned Theologian

Fr. John Behr is a professor at the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen (United Kingdom) and is widely regarded as one of the most influential Orthodox theologians of our time.

He previously served as Dean of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York and held academic positions at prestigious Western institutions, including Fordham University and Harvard Divinity School.

Ordained in the Orthodox Church in America in 2001, Behr was elevated to archpriest in 2008. In recognition of his theological contributions, the University of Divinity in Melbourne (Australia) also awarded him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in 2017.
