Health for villages campaign restarts with the beginning of spring

The volunteers of the Campaign Health for Villages have resumed their activity as the spring came. The restart of the medical humanitarian actions was determined by the beautiful weather and the volunteers’ desire to perform good and to bring joy and hope to the rural population. The first location chosen was the village Ciorogarla, in Ilfov County.

13 doctors and 15 medical nurses, students of the Faculty of Medicine and volunteers of the Parekklesion of the National Cathedral were involved in the activities carried throughout the day (Saturday 05 March). Approx. 60 persons, mostly elderly, received medical consultations, Ana Maria Vasilateanu declared.

The humanitarian action which took place on Saturday represented a great joy not only for the patients, but also for the priest of the village. Rev. Fr. Nicolae Codrea, rector of the St. George parish in Ciorogarla, has underlined the importance of this campaign.

“The Romanian Patriarchate’s action is of a real success not only in our community, but everywhere it was and will be implemented, because above all the real medical benefits received by people, it is very important for everyone to feel the support of the Church. The existence of this campaign is a blessing and we are thankful for dedicating their time and for all the actions of the volunteers in our community” Rev. Fr. Nicolae declared.

The power of example is the simplest way to educate and prevent

Among the volunteers were present students of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” of Bucharest, as well the professors of Clinical instruction Cristina Andronache and Anca Mihai.

“First of all I am here for my students. It is a great opportunity for them to realise that the profession they have chosen entails a great responsability. This campaign is dear to me because nothing compares with the thankfulness reflected in the eyes of those who have received care, a good word, a smile. Nothing compares to the hand shake of an elderly person who leaves glad after receiving a medical consultation. For all these disadvantaged people, without material possibilities, a medical consultation means a great help. And we can do this. That is the reason why I am here”, Cristina Andronache said.

Bianca Maria Curelea is one of the students who want to help, but also to learn what this vocation of “soul” doctor, as she likes to call it, entails. She is 20 years old, freshman at “Carol Davila” University of Bucharest, and is confident she can do good.

“My implication in the Health for Villages Campaign helps me to learn more and to become useful for the people from disadvantaged families and who do not have access to minimal medical services”, Bianca Maria Curelea said.

The power of example is the best way to teach our students how to become general medical assistant, Anca Mihai said: “A professionally well prepared medical assistant succeedes in empathising with the patient, providing the necessary medical care for recovery, but also in informing the patient how to prevent different pathologies in this period”.

The village teachers of the village have also expressed their joy regarding this campaign. The presence of the volunteer doctors is of a great importance, Mrs. Mariana Anghel, deputy director of the no. 1 Secondary School in Ciorogarla, has said.

“The visit of the volunteers is of a great importance given the fact that there are persons who do not have financial resources to go to a doctor in Bucharest, or do not realise, because of the lack of information, how important prevention is”, Mariana Anghel also said.

Products of personal hygiene – gifts offered by Carrefour Romania

The next edition of the campaign will take place on 12 March 2016 in Vidra village, Ilfov County.
