Germany Orthodox, Catholic Bishops meet at Romanian Metropolis in Nuremberg

On November 23-24, the Joint Working Committee of the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in Germany convened for their autumn meeting at the administrative centre of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis in Nuremberg.

His Excellency Gerhard Feige, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Magdeburg, and His Eminence Augustinos, the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Germany, serve as the Committee’s two presidents.

Metropolitan Serafim of the Romanian Orthodox Church extended a cordial welcome to the bishops.

The Committee laboured over several texts that will comprise the introductory section of a brochure concerning significant pilgrimage sites in Germany for Catholic and/or Orthodox Christians, Assistant Bishop Sofian of Brașov wrote on his Facebook page after the meeting.

The Committee has already developed other texts which mediate mutual knowledge between Catholic and Orthodox Christians, such as Der Sonntag – Urfeiertag der Christen (Sunday – Primary Feast of Christians) or Ostern – Das Hauptfest der Kirche in Ost und West (Easter – the central feast of the Church in the East and the West).
