Romanian Orthodox parish in Italy receives church building in Catholic donation

The Romanian Orthodox parish of Saint John the Baptist in Savona, Italy, has received its own church building through a donation from a local Catholic community, in what the clergy described as a historic moment for the parish.

The deed of donation was signed on Monday by Father Domenico Vittorini, representing the Ligurian Augustinian community, and Father Constantin Filip, missionary dean of Liguria and representative of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy.

Also present at the signing was Father Gheorghe Andronic, the community’s pastor since its founding on March 1, 2014.

“The long-awaited moment for the Romanian Orthodox community of Savona is a historic event of great significance for every Christian in this parish,” Father Andronic said.

“The joy experienced at this event cannot be described in words, nor fully grasped by the mind, but only with a Christian heart.”

The donated church is located at Chiesa Santa Rita in Piazza della Consolazione.
