George Enescu’s restored birthplace blessed in Liveni on 70th anniversary of composer’s passing

The George Enescu Memorial House, located in the Romanian composer’s native village, was blessed on Sunday following the completion of restoration works. The event commemorated 70 years since George Enescu’s passing.

A group of priests led the blessing ceremony, which was headed by Archimandrite Hrisostom Rădășanu, Advisor for the Education Department of the Archdiocese of Iași.

The event was attended by Valeriu Iftime, President of the Botoșani County Council; Aurel Melniciuc, Director of the Botoșani County Museum; Dănuț Huțu, Director of the Botoșani County Directorate for Culture; and representatives of local authorities.

“The role of museums is to preserve cultural identity and pass it on to future generations. We renovated this house by accessing projects and European funds, as well as with the contribution of the County Council. We are doing the same with other museums because it is our duty to transmit our cultural heritage,” said Aurel Melniciuc, Director of the Botoșani County Museum, Agerpres reports.

“God has blessed us with great personalities; if we don’t properly honour them, we will lose much. Enescu lives every day, he is relevant, he lives forever,” stated Valeriu Iftime, President of the County Council, for the same source.

The George Enescu Memorial House in Liveni was recently restored through a project funded by the European Union.

On May 4, the 70th anniversary of the passing of the renowned composer George Enescu into eternity was commemorated.
