Famous philosopher and theologian Christos Yannaras reposes in the Lord aged 89

Christos Yannaras, one of the most popular contemporary Greek philosophy professors and authors, reposed in the Lord at the age of 89.

His son announced the news of his father’s death on Facebook.

Christos Yannaras stood out during his academic activity as a philosopher and Christian theologian, managing to create one of the most original bridges of dialogue between theology and philosophy.

He was born in Athens on April 10, 1935, and studied in Greece, France and Germany. He was a doctor of philosophy from the universities of Thessaloniki and the Sorbonne.

Author of over fifty books, Christos Yannaras became well known in the Orthodox space due to his original reporting on the Fathers of the Church and their integration into the broader context of human thought. The Greek teacher has held several conferences and lectures in Romania over the years.

He also wrote columns for many years in the Kathimerini newspaper and other publications. He was a member of the German Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung and an elected member of the Society of Greek Writers and the International Academy of Human Sciences.

Christos Yannaras received the title of Archon five years ago in the office of Grand Orator (Megas Rhetor) of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
